This antique statue dates from between 1870 and 1910 and was sold as a souvenir at Buffalo Bill's Wild West shows in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Buffalo Bill Cody toured extensively, particularly in the eastern United States, performing reenactments of fighting Native Americans and hunting buffalo. These souvenirs were sold at these popular shows, and this statue is one of them.
The casting is very old, evident from its multi-piece construction and the steam holes used to release heat during the foundry process.
The condition is typical for its age. The lasso originally held in the figure’s hand is missing, and there is a crack on the base that was welded long ago.
